Occupy Kc Objectivity Story

While some people demean the cause and others support it, members of Occupy Kc occupy the lawn across from the Federal Reserve, to be in solidarity with the Occupy Wall street protests across the country.
The protests aim to end what they call corporate greed amid the economic crisis in the United States. Occupy Kc started on September 30th. GA meetings, known as general assemblies, form every night between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to discuss the group’s ideas.
“We need to make decisions that best satisfy the group as a whole,” said Marci Razleplaz, a participant of Occupy Kc and student at UMKC.
Currently, Occupy Kc is facing gridlock over its current location and is discussing whether the location is visible enough to draw people. Many participants want to move downtown to capture more diversity and attention.
“It needs to be more than just a bunch of college kids hanging out and camping,” said Razleplaz.
Some participants have mentioned the idea of occupying Ilus Davis Park located in the business district of Kansas City, while others prefer to stay on the Federal Reserve’s lawn.
“I’ve been here the very first day and I don’t care where we go. I just know I am dedicated to the movement and will go where the group goes,” said participant and resident Steven Harris.
Occupy Kc’s first big march is planned for Sunday, October 10th at 3:30 p.m. from Liberty Memorial to the JC Nichols Fountain on the Country Club Plaza.
Wearing an American flag pin and smoking a cigarette, recently unemployed participant Steven Kalra said,
“We handed America over on a silver platter…It’s our time to be heard.”

Farewell to Jenkins Spring 2012 class

Jenkins' class has been by far my favorite class of the semester. No, I am not just saying this to get points, I am saying it with all honesty. I feel what I have learned can and will be applied to my life outside of college. Because I am a writer, learning how to write GOOD stories in this class has opened my eyes to so many other things. I also look at car adds differently, and learning how to create my own business has given me hope that good things are to come.

Thank you Jenkins and everyone in class for making this a pleasant semester.

I plan to enjoy myself and give to others when I open up my own business and remember...
"Don't get mad, raise your rate!" -Jenkins

It's all said and done, it's real, and it's been fun!

How Much Does It Cost You to Wake Up?

As Jenkins says, "Don't get mad, raise your rate!"

Take what you make divided by what you want to make plus business expenses and boom, there you have it!

The goal is to pick a room in the house, then take how much you spend to operate the house and divide it by the room toy are using. Approximately 25%.

  1. Plan
  2. LLC
  3. Create a website
The number one thing that people need to remember is, BELIEVE IN YOU! This goes back to the first few classes. Don't let your own antagonist get in the way!

You also need to remember that when networking, it is wise to use your friends as vendors. Trust plays a big role in establishing a business.

Our class is coming to an end...

Here is our final thought...

Creating a Business

In class we talked about creating a business with the LLC-LIMITED LIABILITY CORPORATION.

These are the steps to YOUR business plan:

  1. Choose a business
  2. Pick a state
  3. Pick a name
The perks of a LLC:
  • Gets you places
  • Benefits- taxes! You are responsible for 18%
  • If anything goes wrong only the companies assets are taken, not yours!
  • Find ways to minimize your losses
Create Business Cards!

  • Business name
  • Personal name
  • Email
  • Web site
  • Phone number
As Jenkins says, "The stingy man pays the most."

I really took this information into account. It is important to learn this information and utilize it.

The power lies in you!

Here's something to think about... How much do you think it costs to wake up in the morning?

It's All About the Research

If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called research, would it? -Albert Einstein

The basis of where we have been getting at throughout this entire semester, has been revolved around research and selling your product/message.

I will say I have learned quite a bit through the course of the semester.

The cover letter assignment will be great practice for creating real cover letters to sell yourself for a job opportunity!

The Power of Fear

Sometimes when trying to sell something or get through to someone, you must light a fire under your audience's ass.

The power of fear motivates!
  • Introduce the threat-  grab the audience's attention with the "Hey you!"
  • Demonstrate the audience is at risk
  • Introduce the solution
  • Determine if the audience can perform the solution.
There are plenty of fear driven techniques that grab an audience's attention.

YOU HAVE THE POWER TO SELL!

McDonalds Is Taking Over the World

In class we have been watching McDonalds ads. It is not surprising that this corporation is taking over the United States and the rest of the world.

Smiles, fun, and happiness is the last thing I think of when I think McDonalds. instead I think, the smell of grease, grimy hands, being bloated, over weight people, screaming kids, and old people.

Sound about right?

What do you rarely see in a McDonalds ad?

MOMS! it's always dads and kids.

Here is an example of a recent ad that depicts the dad entertained and essentially approving his son's behavior, whereas the mom is bewildered:
